One of the critical steps in 3d printing is "leveling" and if the bed of the printer isn't levelled the object isn't going to print well. A sound investment. Filament is the medium the printer uses. Others have used nylon which is more durable, but it is harder to print with. And they come in colors other than yellow! STL files are the models for your objects.

You process them with a program called a slicer because it cuts the model into layers for your printer.
